Staff Profiles

Sharon F. Banks

Sharon F. Banks

Sharon began working at home for a downtown law firm as a legal typist in 1969, while raising three little girls of her own. This business mushroomed into a legal typing service for a number of attorneys throughout Illinois and Indiana.

With the encouragement of a partner in the original firm, she earned a paralegal certificate, closed her at-home business, and joined the firm in its suburban offices as an estate planning paralegal in 1974. Despite the addition of a fourth child, a son, in 1976, Sharon studied for and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University in 1980, and a Juris Doctor from John Marshall Law School in 1985. She passed the Illinois bar exam in 1985 (on the first try!), and continued working with the firm as an Associate Attorney.

In 1989, Sharon established her own practice to be able to conduct business in her own unique way. She has been notably successful, and has assisted many individuals in the Chicago area. (All the above was accomplished, while she was raising and nurturing a family of three daughters, and one son, with the assistance of her husband, Jim.) Sharon currently lives in Buffalo Grove. She has four children and eight grandchildren. Sharon is very active at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Palatine.

Nicholas A. Beis

Nick brings diverse experience and an easy going demeanor to each meeting, whether it is with a client or colleague. Nick has practiced law since 2007. His Elder Law practice focuses on asset protection strategies to accelerate qualification for Medicaid and Veterans benefits, without having to deplete all assets. This includes utilizing a variety of trusts, annuities, and gifting strategies. He can also help navigate the actual application process and knows how best to expedite the VA Aid and Attendance process.

Nick’s expertise in estate planning and accounting along with his knowledge of corporate and family-owned business environments compliment the mission of Banks and Wilson. If you are in need of Estate Planning, Business formation and maintenance, contract negotiations, development of corporate policies, or real estate transactions, Nick is the attorney to meet.

Nick’s philosophy toward his practice and clients is stated best by the man himself. “Clients interact with their attorney during times of great stress. They trust their attorney to give sound advice and guidance. I strive at all times to earn that trust. I believe that regular communication and prompt responses to client requests are keys to maintaining the attorney-client relationship.”

Nick received his J.D. from the Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2007 and his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2004.

Debbie Karol Paralegal Assistant

Debbie began working for Sharon as a secretarial intern in 1974 when Sharon had the at-home business. Later, when Sharon established her own practice Debbie joined her again, and they have continued to work together ever since. Debbie’s work as a legal assistant involves her in nearly every aspect of the firm’s business: tracking real estate transactions, assisting in the funding of trusts, and collection of assets in decedent’s estates. In addition, Debbie serves as receptionist and administrative assistant to Sharon.
